Drones – UAS
Drones, or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), are regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Texarkana Regional Airport (TXK) encourages you to operate your drone in a responsible and lawful manner to ensure the highest level of safety. Whether you are operating as a recreational or commercial user, drone operators must understand and abide by UAS rules prescribed by the FAA.
NOTE: Due to the rapidly changing drone industry and regulations, it is the responsibility of the drone operator to verify the following information and remain aware of all current federal rules, regulations, and restrictions regarding drone operations before executing a flight.
Recreational Users
Recreational operations are classified by the FAA as those conducted for recreational or hobby purposes only. There can be no commercial, business, or financial benefit associated with the operation. Operators seeking to fly their drone for recreational purposes can visit this webpage for FAA guidance.
Commercial Users
Operations for commercial or business purposes are classified as “commercial UAS operations” and subject to the requirements set forth in Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 107. Operators seeking to fly their drone for commercial use can visit this webpage for FAA guidance.
NOTE: The FAA may require Commercial Operators to complete a waiver process when seeking to operate a drone contrary to the rules prescribed in FAR Part 107.
FAA Authorization
Recreational and/or commercial drone operators MUST NOT operate within the controlled airspace of TXK without first obtaining FAA authorization.
Authorization can be obtained through the following methods:
- Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC)
- FAADroneZone (Allow 90 days for approval process)
Flying drones in certain airspace is NOT allowed. Classes of airspace and flying restrictions can be found on the FAA’s B4UFLY app.
